What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is an evidence based medical profession that specializes in movement and body function.

What is a Physiotherapist?

Physiotherapists are primary care medical professionals and are regulated by a provincial governing body. Physiotherapists have in-depth knowledge of the body and how it functions, as well as the skills to assess and treat a variety of conditions.

What can Physiotherapy do for me?

If you are in pain or your movement is dysfunctional a Physiotherapist can help. Your Physiotherapist will work with you to determine the cause of your pain or dysfunction and utilize a variety of treatment techniques to decrease your pain and improve your function.

What can I expect during my initial visit?

After you have completed the required paperwork your Physiotherapist will ask you a series of questions relating to your injury or dysfunction. This information will help to guide the rest of the assessment and subsequent treatment. It will also ensure that you are an appropriate candidate for physiotherapy and do not require referral to another healthcare professional. Next you can expect to go through range of motion and strength testing, as well as some hands on testing by the therapist. After the assessment your therapist will likely begin treatment which may include modalities, manual therapy or specialized treatments, corrective exercise prescription and education.

I injured myself but seem to be getting better on my own, should I still book an appointment?

The short answer is YES.

Your body will heal on its own, but will it heal optimally? Are you still in pain? Will you put yourself at risk of re-injury? Have you developed compensation patterns that will have an impact on performance or function? Have you identified all the factors involved that may have contributed to your injury in the first place? If you are unsure of, or answered yes to any of the questions above you should consider booking an appointment.

Don’t hesitate to book an assessment with one of our therapists now and experience the difference.
